Special effects (SFX) are known to be the fastest thing which becomes outdated in movies : when Méliès did A trip to the moon, it was obviously very modern at he time ; but it soon became outdated when technology advanced. Same with many sci-fi movies from the 80's ! And so many people criticize these outdated special effects, saying things like "omg, I can't even look at it !".
However... I think that these old special effects have something special. The special effects of A trip to the moon are still beautiful, they have a vintage-like charm. I find it fascinating and admirable to see how all of these movie makers created (or at least tried to) special effects at the time. I don't really understand why so many people simply hate them because they're not modern. Modern doesn't always equals good : the animation of the movie Spirit : Stallion of the Cimarron is not "modern" anymore, however I think we can all agree to say that this movie is better than the CGI serie based on it...
definitely. modern =/= better. i wish they made more animated movies in the cartoon style instead of CGI.
